Second place for Oakland in Euro debut

Charley Oakland finished second in the Women’s European Cup race at Donington Park, in her Championship debut.

The Lincolnshire-based rider rounded out a solid weekend by finishing second in the female championship behind Kiwi rider, Avalon Biddle.

In the paddock, Charley had The Bike Insurer’s Lewis Osler as her lead mechanic and the two made some important tweaks to the suspension setup after Free Practice.

That enabled Charley to qualify as the third fastest woman in 27th position with high hopes of gaining positions in the race.

In the race, Charley started superbly, quickly moving to the head of the female pack after a crash disrupted riding.

Despite relinquishing her position to Avalon Biddle, Charley managed to overtake two riders on the last corner of the race to finish second in the female standings, ahead of Viktoria Kis.

Frustrated with her second place and desperate for a podium Charley will again take to the Honda 650f at Jerez in September.

We spoke to Charley after the race.
