Yamaha is taking the revolutionary new three-wheeled, leaning Niken motorcycle on a test ride tour across the UK and Europe.

The Niken was shown for the first time in production form at the 2017 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy and it represents a new way of thinking about motorcycles, as it combines leaning three wheel technology up front with a traditional motorcycle engine and back end.

Now the Japanese company is taking the bike on a tour that will cross the UK, to enable potential customers to test ride the bike and take a closer look at the new technology of the bike.

Yamaha calls the leaning technology Leaning Multi Wheel (LMW) technology and it works to offer greater stability for riders who want that over normal two wheels.

It also creates an opportunity for riders who might be slightly less physically able to continue to ride for longer or return to riding.

Until now, there have been three wheel motorcycles available but they have either been small capacity scooters like the Piaggio MP3, Yamaha Tricity or much bigger and more expensive three wheelers like the CanAm Spyder and Polaris Slingshot.

The Yamaha Niken uses a three-cylinder 847cc engine that is also used in the Yamaha MT-09 motorcycle so it occupies a unique place in the three wheel marketplace. The Niken costs £13,499 in the UK.
