Today marks the beginning of Ride to Work Week in the UK, an initiative designed to get more people commuting on two wheels.

By commuting on two wheels en masse, it’s hoped the benefits of riding to work on motorbikes, scooters and mopeds will encourage others to follow suit.

Commuting by bike can save you time, with motorbikes capable of filtering through stationary traffic and avoiding queues in busy rush hour traffic.

Steve Kenward, Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) CEO, said: “There is also evidence to suggest all road users would benefit if more commuters switched from cars to motorcycles or scooters.

“An EU study, which modelled the traffic for a particularly congested part of Belgium, showed congestion was reduced by 40% for all road users when just 10% of car drivers switched to a powered two wheeler.”

As well as reducing time spent on the road en route to work, commuting by powered two wheelers can also make you happier, according to research by the Office for National Statistics.

Backed by the MCIA, Ride to Work Week is now in its 24th year. More information can be found here.
