Yamaha YZF-R125

The Yamaha YZF-R125 is the most popular sports bike from the Japanese manufacturer on The Bike Insurer.

That means more motorbike insurance requests came in for the R125 than any of its bigger siblings.

And the reasons? It’s a beautiful looking bike, it’s almost as quick as it looks (even for a 125cc) and it’s extremely reliable, as you can see from our reviews from real YZF-R125 riders.

The Yamaha R125 is a great beginner bike for anyone who loves the supersport look/feel. It's also a great way to get used to the more agressive riding style that comes with it. I was quite surprised how comfortable it is to sit on although the ride height is a little higher than expected.. I'm 5'6 and on tip toes. Riding for any longer than 30 mins and I get pins & needles in my hands from the pressure put on them from having your weight so far forward that you're basically resting on your hands. Maybe this will change the more I ride it but it has hampered my enjoyment a little.

Generally the bike is easy to maintain, I am definitely not a mechanic but I have been able to modify the bike as shown on the internet or through a Haynes manual (a must for bike maintenance).

I don't recommend buying a new one if you're planning on doing he DAS scheme as you won't be on it for long and you'll lose too much no my when selling it but if you're 16-20 and can afford to get a new one then go for it. You won't regret it.

One last thing.. being a Yamaha R125 and with supersport looks you'll probably want to ride it hard and abuse it a little.. DONT!.. you'll end up spending a lot of time and money changing sprocket and chain sets.. they tend to wear out pretty quickly on these bikes.

Regular maintenance, checking oil levels etc and this bike will be good to you.
