Scotland is home to some of the most mesmerising and beautiful roads and views that the UK has to offer, it is a picturesque country with plenty to explore and see, especially on two wheels.

If you can handle the long ride to get there (depending on where in the UK you are from) then it is well worth a trip, even if it’s once in a lifetime. If you go, don’t forget to try some haggis and Irn Bru gets the full Scottish experience, after all, it could be once in a lifetime!

We’ve compiled a list of some of the best roads you mustn’t miss out on in Scotland!

North Coast 500

The North Coast 500 is 500 miles of some of the best motorcycling you will ever have, showing the best that Scotland has to offer from lochs to white sandy beaches to much more.

There are plenty of places to relax and rest to get the full experience and possibly do some sight seeing in the castles and glens that you will pass on this route.

It’s a long journey as you’d expect, but worth it.

North East 250

We’ve had the North Coast 500, time to tackle the North East 250. This route was made popular by those that didn’t want to trek to the top of Scotland for the NC500, this route starts and ends in Aberdeen that shows off plenty of terrains around the coast of Scotland, even passing through a national park.

The route can be completed in a single day, but why not take it easy and stop over for a night, after all, you’ll be passing plenty of whisky distilleries so you may as well spend an evening taking advantage (making sure to be sober in the morning before you ride).

Strathaven to Muirkirk

A route with plenty of countryside views, you won’t want to go too fast here with plenty of farmland within the National Speed Limit section, however it is an open road with huge farmland all around, plenty to see.

Invergarry to Uig

A 100 mile trip for those who like the twisties that roads have to offer, this one is for you. 100 miles of bendy roads, perfect for those madmen and women who like to drag their knees and scrub off the chicken strips from their tyres.

Full of grippy tarmac and views, this road is not for the faint-hearted.

The Duke’s Pass

One of the shorter routes on this list, this 10 mile stretch is slow but intense and you must be careful with plenty of slow buses taking up the space on the road, however it continually proves to be immensely popular.

Glasgow to Inveraray

A 17 mile stretch of road, this will take you around two hours but offers some amazing views of lochs and mountains before finishing in a small town called Inveraray.

With some incredible scenery on offer, this isn’t one to miss.

John o’ Groats to Evanton

This 130 mile trip is a little more tamer compared to the North Coast 500, still covering many of the same roads but with a shorter route taking around 3 hours provided you stick to speed limits.

You’ll pass plenty of beaches, sadly though you won’t be able to get your kit off and go for a swim as these are some of the coldest areas in the UK, well you can swim if you’d like, but we wouldn’t advise it.

This road features some narrow roads so you must be careful.

Lairg to Durness

This 90 minute route covers part of the North Coast 500 and encapsulates some of the best scenery you can get with sweeping hills and open valleys, as the road goes on you will come across beaches and incredibly quiet roads.

Dickie Bow Ride

It’s a peculiar name we know, however this five hour route covers the western side of Scotland passing through small villages, grand forests, mountain views and much more.

It’s a circular trip completed in a lap meaning you will finish up where you have started, the villages you pass have plenty of great small independent coffee shops for when you get thirsty and B&B’s for those who want to park up for the night and check out the local pub.

This road has everything you’d want, heck, you could even lap it multiple times!
